Les Bourdeaux is a small farming hamlet 10 minutes south of the medieval town of Loches which is 25 minutes south of Tours set within the beautiful Loire valley in France. The Gite is set amongst peaceful farmland. It is 2.5km from the village of Verneuil sur Indre, which has a bakers, grocers, restaurant and a golf course. It is 3km from the village of Fleure le Riviere, with a bakers, butchers, 3 restaurants, antique shop and pub. A car if therefore needed.
The Gite was built about 1830 - 50 and has been converted in stages over the years. It comprises a long farmhouse (with the old 'oven room' on the end), a very large barn (housing the table tennis) and a large garden with swimming pool and pond. Our Gite has been restored to be used as our second home in France. We want therefore, to make it a family oriented home-from-home, catering for all ages providing you with an excellent location to visit the Loire valley.
The Loire Valley , for centuries, has been a favourite place for kings and holidaymakers alike. Our gite at Les Bourdeaux is within an hour or so of everything which makes a good holiday. The roads are so empty (except in the largest of towns such as Tours) that driving anywhere is part of the pleasure of a day out. The weather is more temperate than the very hot south and more reliably hot than the wetter north. It is said that the good weather starts and stays as you cross the Loire . [So far that has seemed true].
Loaches itself is still very, very French. We tourists are made vsery welcome but, charmingly, there are few other British cars in the car parks and French is needed in the shops (unlike the more coastal regions in France ). Except in the supermarkets, it is a great way of practising that rusty French.
The house itself has a heated pool, swings, table tennis, badminton sets, a set of boules, lots of board games, toys for younger children, videos and DVDs just in case it rains. There is also a set of golf clubs which you can borrow. Naturally there are sun loungers and a BBQ for the outdoor life.
Should you want more than what the house / gite can give you, the surrounding LoireValley area offers:
*Plenty of history and culture. The Chateaux are renowned and too numerous to mention – from sleeping beauty's inspiration at Usse (40 mins) to the ancient ruins and dungeons at Chinon (70 mins). Amboise (40 mins) has a lovely walk along the banks of the Loire, it's chateau and a really tremendous display of many of Leonardo Da Vinci's inventions, sketches and sayings. Art exhibitions, musical evenings and ‘'son el lumiere' performances bring ancient scenes in the chateaux to life. During the first weekend of August (check the website for date) Chinon turns it's whole town into a medieval city and roasting pork, fancy dress, parades etc etc. A great day out. |
